Protophylarch is a mask-bound spirit found within the Wave Echo Vault. Born in the First Age, he was sealed in the Vault during some unknown calamity.

He can only communicate when his mask is worn, and was found by the O.P.E.R.A. around the neck of a colossal angel statue. Largely amnesiac, he remembered details about the Shadowless, and apparently used to aid one known as Paramedes in their fights against some enemy.

When Elemental Gates within the Ahmic Vaults are opened, Protophylarch seems to gain more of their memories. He believes that opening yet more Vaults could restore greater knowledge.
